The NFR Open announced it's personnel for this summer, and there will be a legendary voice behind the mic.
The NFR Open officially announced its 2026 personnel team and leading the way is a name that defines the sound of rodeo, none other than Bob Tallman.
This is the voice that has called some of the biggest moments in rodeo history. Tallman is often referred to as THE voice of rodeo. This past year at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo, Mr. Tallman announced he was going to be stepping back from the mic in Fort Worth.
Stepping back didn’t mean stepping away. He’s still traveling and announcing, still bringing a level of presence to the arena that only Bobby T can do. Now, he’ll bring that to the 2026 NFR Open in Colorado Springs, Colorado this summer.
Tallman won’t be doing it alone. He’ll be joined by Doug Mathis, forming a veteran pairing that blends experience, timing, and storytelling, all the key elements that elevate the rodeo experience for both fans in the stands and those watching on the Cowboy Channel too.
It’s a combination that fits the stage, because the NFR Open isn’t just another rodeo. This is a big deal. It’s become one of the most important events of the regular season.
The NFR Open was formerly the National Circuit Finals Rodeo. This is a premier PRCA championship that is held every year in July at the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo arena in Colorado Springs. It features the top contestants from 12 regional circuits and Canada. The 2026 event takes place at the Norris-Penrose Event Center, and offers over a million in payouts.
A win at the NFR Open can really make a contestants years as one of the highest paying stops in the regular season. Last year the, champions took home $13,000 for the average win, and each round paid $3,000. With more money up for grabs again this year, 2026 will add even more to the standings.
Cowboys and cowgirls will stop through Colorado Springs during one of the busiest stretches of the summer. Last year, we watched Shelby Meged, breakaway roper win the NFR Open right before winning the Calgary Stampede in the same week. Those two wins launched her to number one in the standings and help her qualify for her 6th National Finals Breakaway Roping.
Bob Tallman will bring the action to the fans in the best way, he always does. The NFR Open is scheduled for July 14-18th this year.
