The World’s Oldest Rodeo in Prescott, Ariz., saw massive payouts over Cowboy Christmas. From June 30-July 6, the rodeo had two rounds and an average.
All-Around Cowboy
Eight-time World Champion Stetson Wright is back in the saddle and unsurprisingly, he claimed the title with $11,838 in earnings.
Bareback Riding
The win in the single-round bareback riding was a tie between two of the best cowboys the sport has ever seen. Orin Larsen rode Andrews Rodeo’s Rylee’s Raisin Cane and Jess Pope rode Andrews Rodeo’s Cool Breeze to matching 86-point rides for $6,445 each.
Steer Wrestling
A tie at 4.4 seconds in Round 1 earned Bridger Anderson and Jacob Edler each $2,037. Cody Cabral won Round 2 with a 4.3-second run for $2,179. The Average title and $3,268 for 10.0 seconds on two runs went to Michael Bates Jr, who added to his earnings with a third place finish in Round 1 and seventh in Round 2.
Team Roping
Arizona cowboy, James Arviso, and Logan Moore topped Round 1 for $3,150 each with a 5.2-second run, as well as the Average with a time of 12.1 seconds for $4,726 each. Wyatt Bray and Paden Bray claimed Round 2 at 6.0 seconds.
Saddle Bronc Riding
The single-round win went to Logan Hay, with an 87.5-point ride on Kirsten Vold Rodeo Company’s Priefert's Copycat Valley for $7,811.
Tie-Down Roping
Claiming the Round 1 win at 9.1 seconds for $2,866, Tyson Durfey also topped the average at 17.6 seconds for another $4,2999. Luke Coleman’s 8.2-second run in Round 2 earned him $2,866.
Barrel Racing
Winning Round 1 with a speedy 17.02, Harlee Barela pocket $2,702. Makenzie Mayes raised the bar with a 16.98-second run and the only sub-17-second time of the weekend for the Round 2 win and $2,702. McKenna Coronado placed second and third in the rounds to win the Average for $2,702 on a total time of 34.11 seconds. Riding KT Shine Down, Coronado pocketed nearly $7,000.
Bull Riding
With only three riders making the eight second whistle, Ky Hamilton came out on top with an 84.5-point ride aboard Kirsten Vold Rodeo Company's High Pockets for $10,872.
