They happen in quiet conversations at home, in the truck, and behind the chutes.
The “Tough Draw Talks” podcast began as a natural extension of the storytelling philosophy that historically shaped the Tough Draw brand. What started as informal conversations with athletes and industry figures quickly evolved into a platform dedicated to preserving the voices, personalities and experiences that define Western culture.
For founder Brad Hughes, the podcast became an unexpected but essential part of the journey.
“Film taught me how to tell stories visually, but the podcast taught me how to listen,” Hughes said. “Some of the most powerful stories in rodeo come when people feel comfortable enough to just be themselves. “Tough Draw Talks” became a place where those conversations could live.”
Over more than 60 episodes, “Tough Draw Talks” has featured world champions, rising athletes, industry leaders and personalities from across the Western landscape. The show has grown into a trusted space where competitors speak openly about the realities of the sport—the wins, the setbacks, the travel, the pressure and the purpose that keeps them chasing the next ride.
The podcast also became a proving ground for relationships that would later shape other Tough Draw verticals. Many athletes who first shared their stories behind a microphone would go on to collaborate through production projects, brand partnerships, and representation within Tough Draw Sports.
From the beginning, brand partners recognized the authenticity of those conversations. Early support from the Lane Frost Brand helped launch the podcast, followed by partnerships with Cavender’s, Into The West, and Rodeo Now. More recently, CINCH has embraced the broader Tough Draw vision, supporting multiple verticals, including “Tough Draw Talks,” and helping fuel continued growth.
Like the brand itself, “Tough Draw Talks” evolved alongside seasons of change. As Tough Draw expanded into film production, athlete representation and live event development, the podcast reflected that growth. With a strengthened team and renewed focus heading into the future, Hughes sees the podcast entering a new chapter.
“‘Tough Draw Talk’s has always been about relationships,” Hughes said. “It’s not just interviews—it’s conversations that help people understand who these athletes really are. As we move forward, we’re excited to lean into that even more and continue telling stories that connect the Western world.”
Today, Tough Draw Talks stands as more than a podcast. It is a gathering place for the culture—a modern campfire where stories are shared, lessons are passed down, and the spirit of Western sport continues to find its voice.
