Night one of Rodeo Rapid City opened in thrilling fashion February 5, 2026, with standout performances.

Round one started with a stacked set of competition in the bareback riding. Some of the most notable being 3-time world champion, Tim O’Connell; 2024 world champion, Dean Thompson; and 5x NFR qualifier, Cole Reiner.

It all came down to the last ride. Reiner matched up with Summit Pro Rodeo's Game Trail for a 87.5-point score. Kody Lamb was rewarded with a re-ride, which was taken before the saddle bronc section began, but it was not enough to shake Reiner off the top step.

The big man sport of rodeo had a rough start to the weekend. Chase Crane came out with a 4.4-second run. It was the Louisiana man, Remey Parrott—who threw a 4.3-second run during slack—that has stayed on top this far.

A senior in high school threw the heel loop that took his team to the top of the leaderboard. Jon Peterson (header) and Sern Weishaar (heeler) had a 5.4-second run. The team is currently leading the go-round.

The #15 man in the saddle bronc world standings, Kaden Horrocks, is #1 in the go-round. After an explosive ride on Summit Pro Rodeo's Tail Feathers, he earned a 85.5-point ride.

Tie-down roping all came down to Ty Moser with a 7.6-second run. Moser is currently matched with Riley Pruitt who had led the pack after slack.

The girl on the yellow horse leaves a trail everywhere she goes and Rapid City was no different. Hailey Kinsel blew the time out with a 13.45 second run during slack. A time that couldn’t be touched during the performance.

The last ride of the night—Billy Quillian on Sutton Rodeos' Party Bus gave a good end to the night. Quillian came away with a 85.5-point ride. Riley Shippy walked out of the arena after a scary end to his ride, which ended in a laceration over his eye.

Round Two continues on February 6, 2026 at 7:30 pm, where competitors will look to build on their early earnings and improve their standing in the average.
