After a strong winter that put him on top of the PRCA world standings, Mason Moody’s chase for another NFR appearance is now on hold as he recovers from a broken arm.

Mason Moody’s 2026 season has come to an unexpected end.

The Letcher, South Dakota, bull rider announced Monday that he will be sidelined with a broken arm, ending a season that had once seen him sitting on top of the PRCA world standings and now leaves him with no choice but to turn his focus toward recovery.

“Unfortunately my 26 season has come to an end a little early and a little short,” Moody shared Monday. “I will be sidelined with a broken arm for a while.”

Moody entered the final stretch of the season sitting 19th in the PRCA world standings with more than $100,000 won. He was within striking distance of another NFR qualification, but the injury puts that race on hold as he begins the process of getting healthy.

The timing is especially tough, given the season Moody put together.

After making his first Wrangler NFR appearance in 2025 and finishing 11th in the world, Moody came into 2026 with momentum. A strong winter moved him all the way to the top of the world for a stretch, putting the South Dakota cowboy in position to make another run at the Thomas & Mack.

His season continued to be successful throughout the summer. One of his most recent major wins came at the Burley Pro Rodeo in Idaho, where Moody marked 87 points on Baby T to win the bull riding and collect roughly $5,000.

Moody’s 2026 now ends before he has the opportunity to make that final push. However, Mason is only 23 years old and has a whole career ahead of him. We have seen what he can do, and we can be confident he will be back next season with a gold buckle on his mind once again.

His message on social media following the injury reflected the perspective that has carried him through the highs and lows of the professional rodeo life.

“2026 was full of ups and downs, but blessed to get to live this lifestyle!” Moody wrote.

He also thanked the people who have supported him throughout the season. There is no cowboy or cowgirl going up and down the road without a ton of support. Injuries are inevitable, and those tough times are a lot easier with good people around you.

For now, his focus will be on healing up his arm and getting back into winning shape for the 2027 season. After reaching his first NFR last year, climbing to No. 1 in the world this season and earning more than $100,000 in 2026, Moody has already given himself plenty to build on when he is healthy enough to get back in the arena.
