The veteran barrel racer set a new record on a standard pattern at the Cassia County Fair & Rodeo in Burley, ID.

It’s been a record-breaking summer in the world of WPRA barrel racing. Earlier this month, Sydney Graham and her horse Dupont First set a new standard pattern record at the Mountain Valley Stampede in Heber City, UT, with a time of 16.49 seconds. Their record was short-lived, however, with Kathy Grimes and KG Just Money blazing to a time of 16.31 seconds at the Cassia County Fair & Rodeo over the weekend.

The rest of the rodeo brought its own excitement as well. Michelle Alley finished second in the barrel racing with a 16.64-second run, while Steely Steiner finished third with a 16.82.

The rest of the Cassia County Fair & Rodeo field featured plenty of familiar names across the leaderboard.

In bareback riding, Keenan Hayes topped the field with an 88-point ride on Barnes PRCA Rodeo’s Bottle Cap to collect $4,406. Garrett Shadbolt finished second with 85 points, while Lane McGehee and Donny Proffit tied for third with 84.5.

While there were many strong performances across every event in Burley, it was Grimes who stole the spotlight. As she sits just outside the Top 15 in the world standings, historic wins like this are sure to help build her momentum – and hopefully secure a 2026 NFR qualification.
