

The Homestead Championship Rodeo just came to a close in Homestead, Florida, marking the 77th year of this lauded event. The rodeo holds the claim of being the Southernmost rodeo in the continental United States and it’s a true fan favorite. With an open-air arena, an annual dance, concerts, and lots of festivities, it’s a celebration of the western way nestled in the Sunshine state. With a total payout of $87,270, cowboys and cowgirls from across the country went home a little better off than when they came.
Cord Spradley was the weekend’s all-around cowboy. This cowboy is from just across the state line in Georgia, and is one of the top competitors frequently seen at Southern rodeos. Spradley’s performances in the tie-down roping and the team roping earned him a $2,411 payout.
Spradley was first in the tie-down roping with a time of 10.5 seconds and a $2,411 payout. Macon Murphy came in second place with an 11.9 second run and a $2,096 payout, and Trae Adams III came in third with a $1,782 payout.
The team ropers followed this momentum and clocked quick runs. In first place was Jet Toberer and Casey McCleskey with a 4.2 second run for a payout of $2,548 each. Second place was Bradley Massey and Zack Mabry with a 5.0 second run and a $2,216 payout. Third place was Keven Daniel and Parker Carbajal with a 5.4 second run and a $1,884 payout.
The steer wrestlers matched the pace and Tyke Kipp came in first place with a 4.0 second run and a $1,773 payout. Cody Green was in second place with a 4.6 run and a $1,542 payout and Juan Alcazar Jr in third place with a 5.1 second run and a $1,310 payout.
The roughstock put on a show and pushed their riders to the limits. The stock contractors was HiLo Pro Rodeo with subcontractors including Silver Creek Pro Rodeo, JJ Miller, and Pablo Delgado.
In the bareback riding, Lane McGehee took first place with an 85.5 point ride on Hi Lo ProRodeo’s Soul Sister, earning a $3,003 payout. Mason Yancy was just behind him with an 85 point ride and a $2,303 payout. Third place was a tie between Gavin French and Luke Thrash who each had 84.5 point rides for a $1,402 payout.
The cowboys of saddle bronc riding were led by Ryder Sanford, whose 84.5 point ride on Hi Lo Pro Rodeo’s Orchid earned him $3,181. In second place was James Perrin with an 84 point ride and a payout of $2,439. Third place was split with a tie between Blaise Freeman and Gavin Nelson who both had an 82 point ride and earned $1,484 each.
The first place bull rider was Trey Benton III who had an 86.5 point ride on Silver Creek Pro Rodeo’s Hang ‘em High for a $3,525 payout. A second place tie with two 85 point rides occurred with Bryce Jenson and Eyer Morrison and both took home $2,350.
The barrel racers brought the heat, turning and burning. Ashley Parks came in first place with a 17.81 second run for a payout of $2,111. In second place was Ryleigh Adams with a 17.85 second run and a payout of $1,795. Taylor Carver came in third place with a 17.87 second run and a $1,478 payout.
