Early leaders have emerged at the West of the Pecos Rodeo, but with final performances still to come, every ride and run in Pecos still matters.

 Through the opening rounds of the West of The Pecos Rodeo, several of rodeo's biggest names have already climbed to the top and continue to earn money towards their PRCA standings as we close in on the final performance.

In bareback riding, Roedy Farrell and Garrett Shadbolt share the early lead after each posted 87-point rides on Pete Carr Pro Rodeo's Dusty Roads and Big Iron. A four-way tie for third sits just 1.5 points back, featuring Kash Loyd, Lane McGehee, Jess Pope and Brayze Schill at 85.5 points apiece.

The bulldogging remains wide open. Kyle Irwin and Tyler Waguespack split the first-round lead with matching 4.6-second runs, while Jesse Brown leads the second round with a 4.8-second run. Eli Lord sits at the average standings with an 11.2-second aggregate on two head.

Team roping has also delivered a tight race. Brenten Hall and Wyatt Cox claimed the first-round lead with a 6.4-second run, while Clay Tryan and Kelby Frizzell tied Dalton Turner and Clay Clayman for the second-round lead at 6.9 seconds. In the average, Luke Brown and Hunter Koch are tied with Clint Summers and Jade Corkill at 17.3 seconds on two head.

Saddle bronc rider Lefty Holman turned in one of the week's top scores, posting 88.5 points on Pete Carr Pro Rodeo's River's Ghost to claim the lead. Jake Finlay and Statler Wright sit just behind him with matching 88-point rides.

In tie-down roping, West Smith has been the man to beat. Smith won the first round with an 8.9-second run and currently leads the average with a 19.6-second aggregate on two head. Tyler Calhoun leads the second round with a 9.0-second run and trails Smith in the average by just 1.4 seconds.

Breakaway roping has been equally competitive through the opening rounds. Amy Ohrt leads the first round with a 3.2-second run, while Martha Angelone stopped the clock in second round at 2.9 seconds. Haiden Thompson has been the most consistent roper so far, posting runs of 3.3 and 3.6 seconds to lead the average in 6.9 seconds on two head. Angelone sits just one-tenth of a second back at 7.0 seconds, followed by Jayme Marcrum at 7.5 seconds. Delani Kay Beatty and Madalyn Richards round out the top five in the aggregate as the race for the championship remains wide open heading into the final performances.

Jimmie Smith holds the lead in barrel racing after stopping the clock in 17.19 seconds, edging Kim Squires by one-hundredth of a second.

Steer roping has featured strong performances from multiple rodeo athletes. Tony Reina won the first round in 13.6 seconds, Scott Snedecor stopped the second round with a 10.8-second run, and Jake Clay captured the third round in 11.2 seconds. Vin Fisher Jr. currently leads the average at 40.0 seconds on three head.


The bullriding title so far belongs to bull rider Tristan Mize, who covered Penthouse Pro Rodeo's Hell At Night for 90.5 points. Braydan Kilcrease follows closely with 89.5 points, while Colorado Kid Mackey sits third with 89 points.
