
After a few days of festivities and fun, the Southwest District Fat Stock Show and Rodeo and Breakaway event has come to a close. Cowboys and cowgirls from across the United States went home with their wallets a little fatter and new memories on their minds.
The breakaway roping saw an incredible three sets of ties with each of the first few on the leaderboard clocking smoking fast times. The first place tie was between Karrigan Graves and Kirby Rawlinson, both of whom had 2.3 second runs and won $1,649 each. The second place tie was between Josey Murphy and Lucy Richards who took home $1,189 each. The third place tie was between Carlee Martinez and Ashlea Pierce, who had 2.7 second runs and took home $614 each. The final placement was not a tie, but was Tiffany Schieck with a 2.8 second run and a $153 payout. With a total payout of $7,670, the event rewarded the cowgirls for their fast times and sharp loops.
The event’s All-Around Cowboy title was awarded to Connor Murnion, alongside a $1,526 payout for his performances in the saddle bronc riding and the bull riding. His fellow saddle bronc cowboys stacked up with mid-80 point rides. Devon Hay came in first place with an 84 point ride on Harper & Morgan Rodeo Co’s Route 66 and earned $1,843. Cooper Tyler was right behind him in second place with an 83 point ride and a $1,396 payout. Third place was Ryder Sanford with an 80 point ride and a $1,005 payout.
The boys of bareback riding also came to compete, with Westen Chandler taking first place with an 83 point ride on Harper & Morgan Rodeo Co’s Grip It N Rip It for $1,284. Kade Sonnier was in second place with an 81.5 point ride and a $973 payout and Koltdyn Heath came in third with a 79.5 point ride and a $700 payout.
The bull riding cowboys closed out the roughstock rides. Connor Murnion seized first place with an 87 point ride on Harper & Morgan Rodeo Co’s Diabolical for a $1,526 payout. Gavan Hauck took second place with an 84.5 point ride and a $1,156 payout. Jax Mills came in third place with an 82.5 point ride and a $832 payout.
The timed events kept the crowd entertained with agile skills and tight ropes.
The steer wrestling cowboys were led by Jude Leonards who went 9.0 seconds on two head for a $1,2567 payout. Chase Pierre came in second with a time of 9.6 on two runs and a $943 payout. Carson Powell was in third with a 9.8 second run on two and a $628 payout.
The average leaders in the team roping were Matt Garza and Colten Trejo in first with a 26.4 second time on two head for a $515 payout each. Second place was Justin Lovell and Chad Mathes with a 4.4 second run on one head and a $387 payout. Third place was Cole Thomas and Trace Porter with a 4.7 second run and a $258 payout.
In the tie-down roping, average winners were Semaj Collins Jr, who took first with an 18 second run on two head for a $1,233 payout. Zack Jongbloed in second with a 20.4 second time on two for a $925 payout, and Macon Murphy in third with a $616 payout and a 21.4 second time.
The ladies of barrel racing were led by Josey Murphy with a 14.24 second run for a $1,449 payout. Brooke Krolcyzk came in second with a 14.25 second run and a $1,242 payout. Brittany Fellows was in third place with a 14.29 second run and a $1,035 payout.
