Bareback rider Roedy Farrell is on fire. Following a big win in Sisters, Oregon, the Wyoming cowboy has not slowed down.
Bigfork, Montana, is home to the Bigfork Summer ProRodeo. As cowboys and cowgirls navigate the packed summer schedule, these Montana rodeos attract some of the best. Many of the big stops this time of year are up North, making Montana a great place to be.
The BigFork rodeo takes places just after Cowboy Christmas, still in the busiest stretch of the summer. Many contestants are traveling back and forth across the border for Canadian rodeos like the Calgary Stampede. One Wyoming cowboy is doing just that, and still made time to stop by BigFork and take an early lead in the bareback rider.
Thermopolis, Wyoming, is home to Roedy Owen Farrell. Say his name out loud a few times, and you'll realize that it is no coincidence this guy is a cowboy. Some may say he is just destined for "rodeoin," and his winning streak lately would confirm it.
Right now, Farrell sits 22nd in the PRCA World Standings. He has recently hit some big wins that helped push him there. Back in June, the 21-year-old cowboy took home the title in Sisters, Oregon, worth over $10,000.
A second-place finish at the West of the Pecos rodeo also helped the Mountain State Circuit Champion's cause. Most recently, Farrell finished second in Red Lodge, Montana, and second in Mandan, North Dakota. Then he went to Big Fork, where he took an early lead with 85 points on the talented horse they call Loaded Wagon.
Now, Farrell is north of the border at the Calgary Stampede. From there, he will head back down to his home state for some of those big rodeos. Towards the middle of July, Farrell will represent the Mountain States Circuit at the NFR Open in Colorado Springs. He hit a hot streak at the right time because all of these stops could be huge for the young cowboy trying to make his way into the world's top 15.
Roedy is also sitting very well in another race, and that is the Resistol Rookie of the Year. Right now, Farrell is second in those standings behind another standout young cowboy, Carson Hildre. Only about $12,000 separates the two. Although that seems like a lot of money, these rodeos this time of year have huge payouts. One more big ride could change a lot for Roedy Farrell.
