Cheyanne McCartney is rewriting the WPRA record books, setting a new regular season earnings mark before the 2026 season has even reached its finish line.

For the second season in a row, the WPRA breakaway roping regular season earnings record has a new name attached to it.

Before the end of the 2026 regular season, Cheyanne McCartney has officially surpassed the record set just one year ago by 2025 World Champion Breakaway Roper Taylor Munsell. McCartney has amassed an impressive $194,056.02 in regular season earnings, moving past Munsell’s previous record of $191,175.

The accomplishment marks another major milestone not only for McCartney, but for the continued growth of breakaway roping at the professional level.

Munsell raised the bar in 2025 with a season that ultimately carried her all the way to a world championship. Her $191,175 regular season total established a new benchmark for breakaway ropers to chase. Less than a year later, McCartney has pushed that number even higher; and she still has time left on the regular season calendar to add to it.

Reaching nearly $200,000 in earnings before the end of the regular season is a testament to the consistency required to compete at the highest level of professional rodeo. Throughout the year, every run, every check and every trip down the road has contributed to McCartney’s record-breaking total.

It also demonstrates just how quickly the landscape of professional breakaway roping continues to change.

As more ProRodeo committees continue to add and elevate breakaway roping, competitors are seeing increased opportunities to rope for larger purses and compete in front of rodeo fans across the country. Records that once seemed out of reach continue to fall as both the athletes and the committees supporting the event raise the standard from one season to the next.

For McCartney, the record adds another major accomplishment to an already remarkable 2026 campaign. With $194,056.02 earned and one week still remaining, the question is no longer whether she will break the regular season record, but just how high she will ultimately set the new mark before the season comes to a close.

For the second year in a row, breakaway roping fans have had the opportunity to watch history unfold during the regular season.

The achievement is another example of the momentum breakaway roping has built in recent years. Each season continues to bring new milestones, talented competitors and opportunities for records to be rewritten. McCartney’s 2026 run now becomes part of that history, setting a new standard for the breakaway ropers who will follow.
