The Duvall name has become synonymous with steer wrestling in the same way that the Wright name means saddle bronc riding.
Roy Duvall is a three-time World Champion and his success couldn’t have happened without his brother Bill as his hazer. Bill’s sons, Sam and Spud, have both qualified to the National Finals Rodeo twice and Sam’s son Riley has been there four times.
For the last 46 years the Duvall’s have hosted a jackpot that nearly every steer wrestler prioritizes going to. It is a two day event that starts with the Champions of Champions and concludes with the 40 and over and the 19U divisions.
This year it was Justin Shaffer who dominated this jackpot. He not only won the average but also won the first two rounds and placed in the third round.
With incredible sponsors they are able to give great cash prizes and buckles to the round and average winners! Sam Goings was the fastest time of the jackpot with a 3.6-second run.
Competitors are not the only ones who show up. There are plenty of talented and retired NFR qualifiers who show up to see the top competitors in the game these days as well as the up and comers in the 19U division. Ote Berry and Luke Branquinho both were in attendance this year.
This family’s accolades have commanded respect in the rodeo world for generations. They have made an incredible weekend of competition and each year it seems to get better and better.
