The 2026 CNFR is nearing the end, and no one has been stronger across multiple womens events than University of Wyoming cowgirl Josie Mousel.
The first three rounds of the college finals are wrapping up, and the best of the best collegiate athletes are gearing up for the short round, where National Champions will be crowned. The team standings and the individual all-around standings are taking shape as the third round finishes up.
Going into the finals week, it was expected for the womens all around race to be a knife fight. There are many very talented all around ladies from every region. One University of Wyoming cowgirl has been untouchable though since the beginning of the week.
Josie Mousel is leading the Women's All Around race comfortably right now. She started very strong, winning the first round of the goat tying outright with a 5.8, and then split the #2 spot in the second round. Mousel also split the second round of the breakaway with a 1.9.
Going into round 3, no one was better than Josie in the goat tying with an 11.8 on the two-head average. She has come up with 215 points all around in the first two rounds. Mousel is way ahead in the race, with New Mexico Junior College cowgirl Quincy Morgan Montoya in second after placing in the breakaway and goats as well.
Before the third round began, everyone was talking about Mousel. Although it is early to predict National Championships, Josie has made it easy to do so. There is still a lot that can change, and plenty of talented cowgirls that still have a shot too.
The third round began on Wednesday for Mousel where she tied a 6.2 to keep her in the lead of the 3 head average and be placing 2nd in the 3rd round.
Besides the individual all-around race, Mousel is also helping the University of Wyoming women's team have a chance at a team title. Currently, UW is 2nd behind Weatherford College.
The South Dakota cowgirl has been a standout at the University of Wyoming, and is always one to watch for. She has her mind on a couple of National titles, and is hot in pursuit to accomplish that goal.
The College National Finals Rodeo will wrap up with the short go on this Saturday June 20th at 7:00 p.m. inside the Ford Wyoming Center in Casper.
