Youth of Ranching Community Compete On Large Stage cover image

Thirteen teams of ranch kids are set to compete at the Youth World Championship Ranch Rodeo.

The Youth World Championship Ranch Rodeo will take place in conjunction with the World Championship Ranch Rodeo, Nov. 9 through 12. This special event focuses attention on handy kids who are exceptionally capable to complete tasks around the ranch. It will take place in the Amarillo Civic Center, in the same arena the grown-ups compete in, at 1 p.m. Nov. 11.

This will be the third year of the Youth World Championship Ranch Rodeo. Talented kids under the age of 16 qualify throughout the ranch rodeo season by winning first place at a WRCA sanctioned youth ranch rodeo. Once qualified, they have the opportunity to compete in Amarillo against other teams.

The kids leave the ranch briefly to showcase skills learned from the cowboys around them. With an audience eager to watch young minds go to work, they work together as a team tending to cattle and demonstrating a rancher’s livelihood.

The young cowboys and cowgirls lineup of events includes the branding, sorting, doctoring, trailer loading, and the wild steer race. Contestants are handy with a rope, demonstrate horsemanship, work collaboratively, and overall, have excellent judgement of how things operate on a ranching outfit.

Truly, ranch rodeos offer opportunities for the whole family. The community is raising up the next generation of ranchers, cowboys, and cowgirls.
