Should Afonso Moreira be starting every game for Bayer Leverkusen?

While I expected slight rotation from Martinez vs. Hoffenheim, I was surprised to see Moreira on the bench against Hoffenheim. Not because Nathan Tella isn't good enough, but because I think Moreira gives Leverkusen something they sometimes struggle to find: someone willing to receive the ball wide and take responsibility for beating his defender.

His ability to attack from the left and cut inside onto his stronger right foot creates an interesting relationship with Miguel Gutiérrez. When Moreira moves inside, Gutiérrez can provide the width. When he stays wide, he can stretch the opposition's back line and create space between the full-back and centre-back.

The challenge is getting those movements coordinated rather than having both players occupy the same spaces.

His final ball still needs work, but I think Moreira's directness is particularly useful when Leverkusen face teams defending in a compact shape.

Do you think Leverkusen is too reliant on Moreira or, the loss against Hoffenheim had nothing to do with his absence?
