With elite European giants circling, the French forward must choose between becoming Liverpool's post-Salah talisman, navigating Madrid’s internal turmoil, or continuing his prolific dominance in Munich.

What Should Michael Olise Do?

There can be no doubt that Michael Olise has had a sensational season for Bayern Munich. Since moving to Germany, he has scored 42 goals and 46 assists in 107 games in all competitions for Bayern Munich across the last 2 years.

And it is for this reason why many other major clubs in European football would like to sign him, but as expected, Bayern have zero interest in letting the French forward go. But if he were to leave, what would be the best move for him, or would staying at Bayern actually be the best move he could make?

Now, one club heavily linked to wanting to sign Olise is Liverpool. They need a right winger, following the departure of talismanic forward Mohammed Salah, and reportedly, Olise would be a ‘dream’ signing.

This move would make a lot of sense for both parties, with Olise, he would be returning to a league in which he spent 3 years at Crystal Palace. But he would return as one of the league's elite players compared to when he departed in 2024.

And for Liverpool, he would be a guaranteed starter for the Reds, with there currently being no real competition in that right-hand side position. As shown in Arne Slot’s reluctance to use Federico Chiesa and instead playing players like Frimpong and Szoboszlai instead, players that are not fully natural in that position and certainly don’t offer the same goal-scoring threat as Olise would.

However, with the ever-growing pressure on Arne Slot off the back of a poor season for Liverpool in the campaign just gone, does Olise want to join a team that isn’t even fully convinced by their current head coach?

Another team that has been linked to Olise is Real Madrid. While they have not been as heavily linked as the likes of Liverpool have, the imminent arrival of Jose Mourinho as their new head coach could change that, as the idea of working with the former Chelsea and Manchester United manager may be one of interest to Olise. Mourinho was also seen at the recent DFB Pokal final that Olise played in, potentially having a look at the winger, ahead of this potential move to Real Madrid.

Despite this, the well-documented issues surrounding Real Madrid at the moment may make this deal difficult to pull off. Along with the rumoured internal fighting amongst players, suggesting a toxic environment around the club at the moment, there is also the issue of the ongoing Real Madrid Presidential Elections.

These elections, scheduled for the 7th June 2026, mean that any appointment of a new head coach is on hold and this also means any transfers are also on hold, with the winner of these elections likely to impact whether Real Madrid pursues Michael Olise or not.

The most likely option, if reports are to be believed, is Olise remaining at Bayern Munich for at least another year. This was further reinforced by the Bayern Chief Executive, Max Eberl, who has stated that there is no price at which Bayern would sell Olise this summer. And this could be seen as the most sensible option available to Olise.

He has been highly influential and successful in Vincent Kompany’s Bayern Munich team this campaign, with him contributing to 53 G/A in all competitions, and is clearly rated highly by Bayern Munich’s hierarchy as well. It is a stable environment for him and, especially given the fact that it is a World Cup year, as if France performs as well as expected by many, he will be in America until mid-July, leaving little time after the World Cup until the new season begins.

All of this may lead to the conclusion that Olise will stay at Bayern Munich for at least one more year, and he will have the aim of hopefully going a few steps further in the Champions League next season, after Bayern’s run to the semi-finals, eventually losing to current reigning champions PSG. And maybe if that does happen and he can win a Champions League with Bayern Munich, he may believe he has achieved all he can at the club and start to look elsewhere.
