Borussia Dortmund's Kjell Watjen Joins FC Midtjylland
Was This A Good Deal For Dortmund To Do?
Borussia Dortmund officially announced this morning the departure of attacking midfielder Kjell Watjen on a permanent transfer to Danish first division side FC Midtjylland. The 20-year-old German midfielder hasn't been able to kick on since making his first appearance for Borussia Dortmund back in the 2023/24 season. Following moves to their B team (Borussia Dortmund II) and a loan move to 2. Bundesliga side Bochum, Dortmund have allowed Kjell Watjen to leave the club permanently, reuniting with former Borussia Dortmund U19 coach Mike Tullberg.
It was reported by BILD, via @bvbnewsblog, that Mike Tullberg was a driving force behind this move, as he was the coach who was key to Kjell Watjen's development and subsequent breakthrough into the Borussia Dortmund first team. The reported fee for this transfer is around €4 million, which would represent good business for Dortmund, given Kjell Watjen had no future at the club and came through the academy.
