Borussia Dortmund Announce Squad Numbers For Two New Signings

It has been announced by Dortmund that the kit numbers that new signings Justin Lerma and Joane Gadou will wear for this upcoming season. Joane Gadou will be wearing the number 22 shirt, previously worn by players such as Jude Bellingham and Christian Pulisic. And Justin Lerma will be wearing the number 28 shirt previously worn by Axel Witsel and Matthias Ginter.  Furthermore, BILD have reported that Borussia Dortmund have no immediate plans to change any other kit numbers going into next season, with numbers 10, 6 and 11 all available for any new signings should they want any of them. Borussia Dortmund's Kjell Watjen Joins FC Midtjylland

Borussia Dortmund officially announced this morning the departure of attacking midfielder Kjell Watjen on a permanent transfer to Danish first division side FC Midtjylland. The 20-year-old German midfielder hasn't been able to kick on since making his first appearance for Borussia Dortmund back in the 2023/24 season. Following moves to their B team (Borussia Dortmund II) and a loan move to 2. Bundesliga side Bochum, Dortmund have allowed Kjell Watjen to leave the club permanently, reuniting with former Borussia Dortmund U19 coach Mike Tullberg. It was reported by BILD, via @bvbnewsblog, that Mike Tullberg was a driving force behind this move, as he was the coach who was key to Kjell Watjen's development and subsequent breakthrough into the Borussia Dortmund first team. The reported fee for this transfer is around €4 million, which would represent good business for Dortmund, given Kjell Watjen had no future at the club and came through the academy.  What Do You Think?Jul 13, 2026

Julian Ryerson Injury Worries Could Throw Potential Transfer Into Major Doubt

Borussia Dortmund's Julian Ryerson had to be taken off at the hour mark in Norway's 2-1 defeat to England in the 2026 FIFA World Cup quarter-finals due to an injury. Ryerson had already missed a game earlier in the tournament for Norway due to an injury, and these recurring injuries will be concerning Borussia Dortmund. That is because the club were close to agreeing a deal to send 2nd choice right back Yan Couto out on loan for the seaosn to Como, with an option to buy for the Italian side, but with this new injury for Julian Ryerson, that throws Couto's proposed move into serious doubt, as Dortmund are unlikely to sanction a departure in the right back position when their starting one, and one who avoided any real injuries throughout the entirity of the domestic season, has had two injuries in the space of just over a month. Borussia Dortmund will be hoping that this is just a consequence of Julian Ryerson playing a lot of minutes for club and country over the last season, and that, hopefully, with some time off to rest and recover, he can come back and still be the same seemingly bulletproof self he was last campaign.
