Borussia Dortmund Making A Move For Former Manchester United Player Jadon Sancho Remains Unlikely, But Not Impossible

From the moment that he signed for BVB back in August 2017, you could see the confidence and belief that Jadon Sancho played with; the desire to run at the opposition and try and create something from nothing was a nightmare for defenders but pure joy for all Dortmund supporters.

The English playmaker would really kick on in his second season, getting double-digit goals and assists in the Bundesliga, scoring 12 and assisting 14. However, Jadon Sancho would then go on to better that the following season by notching up 39 G/A in 44 games in all competitions for Borussia Dortmund, putting on full display his level of technical ability and flair - Sancho was unplayable and he was only 20 years of age at the end of this stunning campaign in Germany, there was a belief already that Sancho was world class and England could have themselves a future Ballon D'or winner on their hands.

In the Borussia Dortmund star's final season in Germany, he would miss 2 months due to injury, meaning he would have a slightly lower output season, getting 16 goals and 18 assists in all competitions, but he still had done enough to earn himself the blockbuster £73 million move over to the Premier League with Manchester United, but that would be where his career began a downward trajectory.

So, now that Jadon Sancho is a free agent, questions have been asked regarding whether or not a move to re-sign the England international. Previously, Dortmund had shut down the idea of signing Sancho owing to a change in club direction, meaning that they wanted to sign different player profiles to those of Jadon Sancho. However, that stance has softened slightly with reports coming out from SportBild, via @bvbnewsblog, that while Dortmund have not yet held any talks with Jadon Sancho and his representatives, the player could be an option the club may explore come the end of the transfer window. However, there remain some key details that Jadon Sancho would need to abide by to make this deal happen, should Dortmund pursue it.

The main one is a significant wage reduction, compared to what he was earning at Manchester United. In the Premier League for Manchester United, the forward was earning a whopping £13 million per year as a base salary. These terms are unlikely to be matched by many, if any, clubs within European football and Dortmund are no exception to that, as they would likely offer Sacnho a €5 million (£4.2 million) per year, with any additional money heavily performance-incentivised. If Sancho were to accept these terms, a transfer would become more likely at the very least.

Furthermore, the same report goes on to say that internally there is a believe that Dortmund Head Coach Niko Kovac could be the key to unlocking the best version of Jadon Sancho with a further plus being that should the sale of Karim Adeyemi go through, then Sacho would not only be a replacement for the departing German but would also bring massive fan fare and would be a good marketing asset for the club.

I think that if Jadon Sancho is still available at the end of August and Dortmund are still in need of an attacking player, then bringing back Jadon Sancho on those terms previously mentioned would be a great deal.

Even if it doesn't work out, I think agreeing on a short-term deal with Sancho and getting half of what he was in his first stint at the club, you are still getting a player there that can get you goals and assists in tight, evenly-matched games, a player profile that Dortmund have been looking for, maybe ever since Sancho's initial departure.
