Borussia Dortmund have reportedly reignited their efforts to sign highly rated Belgian-Greek midfielder Konstantinos Karetsas, with the 18-year-old emerging as BVB’s preferred replacement for Julian Brandt.

Patrick Berger (Sky Germany), reports negotiations that had previously stalled are now back on track, suggesting Dortmund remain determined to secure one of Europe’s most promising young talents.
Karetsas, who currently plays for Belgian side KRC Genk, has attracted widespread attention with his mature performances despite his young age.
Sporting Director Ole Brook Impressed by Karetsas
Comfortable operating as an attacking midfielder or in a wider creative role, his technical quality has already earned comparisons with some of Europe’s elite young playmakers, making him one of football's latest prospects.
The report claims Borussia Dortmund sporting director Ole Book is particularly enthusiastic about Karetsas and views him as an ideal fit for the club’s long-standing plans. Dortmund have enjoyed remarkable success with this model in recent years, helping develop players such as Jude Bellingham, Jadon Sancho and Erling Haaland before selling them for significant profits.
Big Price Tag
The biggest obstacle remains Genk’s asking price, with the Belgian club reportedly demanding around €35 million, a substantial amount for a player who is still in the early stages of his career.
Dortmund are believed to be exploring ways to finance the move, with the possible departure of winger Karim Adeyemi potentially providing the funds needed to complete the transfer.
Standout Season at KRC Genk
In the 2025–2026 season for KRC Genk, Karetsas made 45 total appearances (including 34 in the Belgian Pro League). He recorded 2 goals and 14 assists across all competitions.

Replacing Julian Brandt would not be straightforward, with the German international being one of Dortmund’s primary creative outlets in previous seasons, contributing goals, assists and leadership in attacking areas.
Karetsas would represent a different type of signing, less experienced but with enormous long-term potential and room for development under Dortmund’s coaching staff.
At this stage, negotiations remain ongoing and no agreement has been finalised.
