Celtic should target a move for the brilliant Ligue 1 goalkeeper this summer, with Kasper Schmeichel's time at the club set to come to an end.

Celtic FC Roundtable Round-up: Kasper Hogh Race, Yang Breaks Record!

It is safe to say the Celtic were unlikely to extend Kasper Schmeichel's time at the club beyond this season in the first place. But the Danish goalkeeper recently came out and shared that he will need to undergo surgery, and is looking at a 10-12 month recovery period.

At 39 years of age, that could mean the end of his footballing career. It is most definitely the end of his time as a Celtic player.

We can only wish him the best of luck for his future and hope to see him do well, whatever it is that he does next, whether on or off the pitch.

That being said, the club will need to start looking for replacements. Viljami Sinisalo has done a decent job since stepping in for Schmeichel. That being said, are we convinced that he is the right choice as the long-term number one for the Hoops?

Sinisalo's time as the Celtic number one has been mixed at best. He has put in some pretty solid displays. But then, he has had bad days as well. Maybe the club should look for someone who is more reliable between the posts.

If you ask me, Herve Koffi is someone Celtic should be keeping an eye on. The 29-year-old Lens player has spent the season on loan at Angers. And he has arguably been the best goalkeeper in Ligue 1.

Per 90 minutes, he is in the 92nd percentile for saves and 89th percentile for save percentage. He is also in the 92nd percentile for goals prevented. In fact, he has faced an xGOT of 36.26 and only conceded 26 times. He is 92nd percentile in terms of high claims as well, a commanding presence in the box.

One area where he seems to be lacking a bit is his distribution. That being said, he is not at a club, Angers are 12th in Ligue 1, where he can show that side to his game far too often. Perhaps that could improve at somewhere like Celtic.

It is worth pointing out that he is on the books at Lens. But, they are currently 2nd in Ligue 1. So, it is hard to imagine that they will drop their 21-year-old goalie Robin Risser in favour of the 29-year-old out on loan.

That might allow Celtic a chance to swoop in and sign him for a bargain fee, which could be a brilliant deal for the Hoops.
