Celtic still have a lot to play for this season. The recent results have dampened the mood of the supporters, but football is a results-based game. A good run of form over the next few weeks and things could be looking very different around Parkhead. Let's hope that Martin O'Neill can pull a few more rabbits out of his magic hat between now and the end of the campaign.
In the long run, it is very clear that the squad needs to undergo an overhaul. Is the current recruitment team capable of overtaking that task?
Bodo/Glimt's win over Inter Milan in the Champions League play-off should be a reminder that a team does not necessarily need to spend significant amounts of money to succeed in Europe.
It will not only be about fresh arrivals in the summer for Celtic. They will need to say goodbye to quite a few as well, as they seem to be at the end of the road at Parkhead.
Luis Palma is one name that falls under that category. Signed in the summer of 2023, he has already been out on loan a couple of times. A permanent exit feels inevitable.
Palma is currently on loan at Lech Poznan and has done well there. The Polish club are believed to have a €4 million release clause in the deal. But it looks like the Honduran winger does not have a long-term future there, even if they take it up.
According to 67 Hail Hail, Polish journo Adam Slawinski while speaking on Kanal Sportowy: “There is only one scenario that is currently being considered with Palma.
“Lech Poznan is already looking at the market to see who would potentially want to buy Palma.
“[Lech] would like to reach an agreement where Luis Palma stays until the end – or at least the crucial phase – of the European qualifiers, if they play in them.
“They would be willing to buy Palma for 3.5-4 million euros, and sell him for 6 million euros. It is not being considered to buy him lower and for him to simply stay at Lech Poznan.
“This is a set of interconnected things. If Palma is bought, Lech Poznan would immediately want to make the move towards a sale."
That is not the ideal situation to be in, if you are Palma. He does not seem to have a future at Celtic. On the other hand, the club he is currently on loan at might only sign him if they can manage to move him on immediately and make a transfer profit.
It remains to be seen if the report is accurate or not. If it is, then Palma finds himself in an unenviable situation.
At Lech Poznan this season, he has scored six goals and provided seven assists in 31 appearances. In Europe, he has five goal contributions in seven Conference League games.
So, it would not come as a surprise if there is interest in Palma in the summer. If Lech Poznan do sign him for the option to buy, they will be shattering their club record.
