There are a number of positions where Celtic will need to strengthen in the summer transfer window. Striker is one of them. The club have brought in a number of different centre-forwards in recent seasons, but the results have not been satisfactory.
Daizen Maeda had been in the form of his life last season. But that purple patch in front of goal is well and truly over. Also, he is expected to depart in the summer.
Celtic did sign Kelechi Iheanacho as a free agent in the summer, with hopes that his past connection with Brendan Rodgers could help him rediscover his best form. The Nigerian striker has struggled with both form and fitness throughout the season. On the other hand, the Northern Irishman is no longer the manager either. It is unlikely that the Hoops will take up the option to extend his contract.
Celtic also signed Tomas Cvancara and Junior Adamu on loan deals in the winter transfer window. Neither has been particularly impressive, and has only scored once each until now. Unless things improve drastically between now and the end of the season, there is little hope that they will remain at Parkhead beyond this season, despite the club having an option to buy in both deals.
Expect Celtic to sign multiple strikers in the summer transfer window. And one from Hearts has caught their eye.
According to Sports Boom, Celtic are interested in Claudio Braga. The Hoops are understood to have drawn up a shortlist, which includes the name of the Portuguese striker.
Signing him won't be easy though. Firstly, Hearts might be reluctant to allow Celtic to sign one of their best players, having been in a title race with the Hoops this season.
Secondly, there is Premier League interest in Braga. Brighton & Hove Albion and Crystal Palace have him on their radar. One of the clubs are said to be readying a bid in the region of £5 million according to the report.
Hearts signed Braga last summer for a transfer fee in the region of £400,000. It is safe to say that has proven to be an inspired move on their part.
Braga has scored 15 goals and provided 6 assists in 35 appearances for Hearts so far. That has included strikes against
Celtic and Rangers.
So, it is not hard to see why Celtic might be interested in him. That being said, the Hoops have not been particularly successful when it comes to trying to sign strikers from Scottish rivals.
There were rumours that they wanted Kieron Bowie before he ended up joining Hellas Verona. Before that, Bojan Miovski was also linked with the Hoops, back when he was playing at his best for Aberdeen. There had been on-and-off rumours involving Lawrence Shankland in the past as well. But none of those ended up materialising.
