Chris Sutton wants Martin O'Neill to drop Celtic's best performer in their game against the Rangers at Ibrox.

Celtic Roundtable Round-up: Celtic midfielder's exit, Youngster tipped for Premier League, Kyogo to Celtic back on?

Both Celtic and Rangers will know that today's game at Ibrox is going to have major implications in the Scottish Premiership title race. They find themselves trailing Hearts after the first 29 games of the campaign. Absolutely nobody could have predicted that at the start of the season. But here we are.

Whichever team comes on the losing end today might find themselves outside the title race, and depending on others dropping points. If it turns out to be a draw, which is very much a possibility considering both clubs' poor form throughout the campaign.

Celtic's biggest problem right now is their inability to find the back of the net consistently. None of their strikers is scoring freely.

Tomas Cvancara and Junior Adamu were brought in on loan in the winter. Both have scored just once each so far in their Celtic careers. On the other hand, Kelechi Iheanacho has struggled with both form and fitness. One of the major reasons he was signed was because of his past connection with Brendan Rodgers. But with the Northern Irishman no longer manager, it is hard to see a long-term future for him here.

Anyways, coming back to the Glasgow Derby. Celtic will have to find a way to score against the Rangers in their own backyard. Preferably on multiple occasions.

Their highest goalscorer this season has been Benjamin Nygren. But Chris Sutton appears to believe that he should be dropped against the Rangers, which would be a brave and bold call, if Martin O'Neill does decide to make it.

According to the Daily Record, Sutton wrote: "Celtic will need legs in midfield, especially if Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Callum McGregor start as expected.

"McCowan has the energy and drive to provide it. That might leave people wondering how Benjamin Nygren fits in.

"He doesn’t, is the answer. That might be harsh on the top goal scorer and it will be tough to leave out the main threat.

"But Celtic can’t afford to be overrun in midfield at Ibrox and that might mean sacrifices have to be made."

Other than Nygren, nobody has scored consistently for Celtic this season. So, it would be a very risky move on their part, if he is left on the bench. And although Sutton seems to believe that it would be the right call, and it might potentially be, we don't believe that the summer signing won't be starting against the Rangers.

Celtic's midfield has been overrun in more than one derby in recent times though. So, that is something that O'Neill will need to find an answer for.

Could soaring up the midfield numbers with McCowan and putting Nygren on the flank be the answer? Probably not.

One thing is for certain, Celtic will need to score today. Probably more than once, if they want to come home with all three points. And other than Nygren, they do not have a single player who seems to be in the right place at the right time on a consistent basis.
