Gordon Strachan has dropped his verdict on Andy Robertson's chances of making a move to Celtic.

Andrew Robertson to Celtic has been a dream move for many fans over the years. The Scottish national team captain grew up supporting the Hoops and was actually part of the club's youth ranks at one point in time. But he was allowed to leave early on because it was deemed that he was 'too small' to be top-level professional footballer.

Well, he has certainly gone on to be one of the best left-backs of his generation, that is for sure, winning almost everything possible during his time at Liverpool, where he is considered a club legend. This summer, he will also be captaining the Scotland national team at the World Cup.

So, it would be safe to say that Celtic got it wrong with Robertson. He is one that got away. But for quite some time now, there has been speculation about a return to Parkhead for the Scottish left-back.

Robertson is no longer a key figure in the first-team picture at Liverpool. His contract runs out in the summer, and this season, he has started just five of their 26 Premier League games.

In January, it had looked like Robertson's chances of making a move to Celtic were set to end for good as he had appeared close to joining Tottenham Hotspur at one point in time. That did not happen, and the dream is still alive.

If you ask Gordon Strachan, he does not foresee Robertson joining Celtic though, and it has to do with the presence of Kieran Tierney at the club. According to the Daily Record, he said:

"I feel that he has to find somewhere he's going to be an influence, where players listen to him when he speaks, and when he performs, people look at him and go, ‘Wow, like that, that's what I want to be.’

"So he needs to find a club like that. It's unfortunate about Celtic having Kieran Tierney in that sense, I think coming back to the place where he started would have been a great, great thing for him. But I think that might be a problem now because you have Kieran Tierney there.

"So for me, it's not about what league it is, it's where he's going to be of most influence for himself because he's earned it right now after all the years of great football to go anywhere he wants to enjoy himself for whatever seasons he has left."

That is certainly something worth taking into consideration when it comes to any future move. Celtic already have Tierney, who is a club hero on his own right and has played his way into form this season after a poor start to the campaign after returning as a free agent in the summer.

Admittedly, Tierney has had his injury problems over the years and needs someone of quality as a cover option. But will that be someone as great as Robertson? It is hard to imagine so.

It is far more likely that Celtic will try to sign Marcelo Saracchi on a permanent basis in the summer. As for Robertson, a return to his boyhood might not be on the cards.
