Celtic have been linked with the talented centre-back but now as it seems, their rivals Rangers have made the first move in the much-anticipated transfer battle.

Celtic FC Roundtable Round-up

Celtic will hopefully look to address their defensive woes during the summer transfer window, alongside finding a permanent manager, with Martin O'Neill set to depart at the end of the campaign. They have conceded 26 goals in the Scottish Premiership till now this season, more than any other side in the top four.

The Bhoys brought in Benjamin Arthur on loan from Brentford for the rest of the season alongside five other short-term recruits during the winter transfer window, but the defender has yet to feature for the Hoops since coming into the side.

Cameron Carter-Vickers, arguably the club's best defender, is expected to remain out for the rest of the season with a long-term injury.

As a result, the Celtic management should already be looking at options to strengthen their defence for the next season, and Dundee FC's highly talented centre-back Luke Graham has been on the watchlist of the club if reports in the Scottish media are accurate.

But according to The Scottish Sun, Rangers have stepped up their interest in Graham. Ibrox technical director Dan Purdy was at Dens Park on Saturday to personally watch the 22-year-old.

As for the Celts, the club is yet to make any concrete move for the highly-rated defender, although the same report goes on to state that Celtic are also keeping tabs on the Scotland Under-21 player.

Graham has been an essential player for Dundee this season with his abilities both with and without the ball as he has been able to establish himself as a starter.

His abilities in the air, on the ball and physical prowess have been an eye catcher for a number of sides as Queens Park Rangers and Portsmouth have approached Dundee for the youngster during the winter transfer window. The latter are believed to have even put in a bid but it was turned down.

As it stands, the Glasgow rivals will supposedly fight it out for the signing of the youngster during the summer transfer window as both Celtic and the Rangers clearly need to strengthen their squad.

But it seems the Hoops might be waiting to find a long-term replacement for O'Neill first, before making any significant signings for the summer transfer window. At the same time, they can't wait for too long and miss out on quality talent as a result of it.
