Celtic got past the Rangers at the weekend, winning on penalties at Ibrox. The post-match scenes might have gotten most of the headlines, as both sets of fans ended up on the pitch, but there is no doubting that the result is a significant one as well. The Hoops are now through to the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup, where they will be taking on St Mirren.
It is a chance to get one back over St Mirren, after having lost the League Cup final to them earlier in the season. But for now, that cannot be the focus.
Celtic have a tough test ahead of them. They will be welcoming Motherwell to Parkhead at the weekend.
The Hoops have been winning, when they have, narrowly for weeks now. And Motherwell will present them a serious challenge. There is a reason Jens Berthel Askou is rumoured to be a leading candidate to get the Celtic job in the summer.
Askou has Motherwell playing some great football. At the same time, they have the best defence in the Scottish Premiership as well, and by far. It won't be easy for a stumbling Celtic side, even with home advantage.
Now, the Scottish FA have announced the officials for the game. And it might not exactly go down well with a large section of the Celtic support.
John Beaton will be the referee for the game between Celtic and Motherwell this weekend. Graeme Stewart and Calum Spence will be his two assistants on the day. Kevin Clancy will be on VAR duty and he will be assisted by Gary Hilland.
Of course, Beaton was in charge of the Glasgow Derby at Ibrox at the start of the month as well, which ended in a 2-2 draw, thanks to a second-half comeback from Martin O'Neill's side after going two goals down in the first 45 minutes. There is not much new that needs to be said about how the majority of the Celtic supporters feel about the referee.
Anyways, Celtic cannot spend too much time worrying about who will be refereeing the game. Motherwell are too good of a team and need the Hoops' full attention at the moment.
Any defeat at the moment could prove to be the end of Celtic's title challenge this season. They are already five points behind Hearts with just nine games left to be played. O'Neill's side need to be pretty much perfect from now until the end of the season, and on top of that, hope that other results go their way.
