Signing multiple strikers has to be at the top of Celtic's wishlist in the summer. At the moment, they do not have a single forward who is scoring goals consistently. Their best option in front of goal has been Benjamin Nygren, whose finishing has been questioned, but that has not stopped him from scoring 18 times while playing mostly as a midfielder.
Nygren is not the solution for Celtic though. They need someone who can score consistently as a striker.
Kelechi Iheanacho has struggled with both form and fitness. On the other hand, neither Tomas Cvancara nor Junior Adamu has been able to convince that they are an outright goalscorer.
Celtic are believed to have options to buy in the deals for both Cvancara and Adamu. Also, they have an option to extend Iheanacho's deal by another year. But considering how things have turned out this season, it is hard to imagine the club taking up any of them.
Starting afresh would not be a bad idea at all. And they have been linked with a few strikers lately. One of them is Aribim Pepple of Plymouth Argyle.
Pepple has been a man in form for Plymouth Argyle this season. He has scored 11 goals in 1589 minutes of action across all competitions.
Also, Celtic's chances have been boosted by a recent admission from Plymouth Argyle manager Tom Cleverley.
According to PlymouthLive, Cleverley confirmed that Pepple does have a release clause in his contract.
Pepple was signed from Luton Town last summer. Reports suggested that Plymouth Argyle paid an initial £250,000 transfer fee for him, but that could rise to around £600,000. Judging from those figures, it is hard to think that the release clause in his deal would be a significant one.
One mistake that Celtic made in the winter was not signing a striker in form. Both Cvancara and Adamu had struggled in the first half of the season before their loan move to Parkhead. So, it should not come as a surprise that they have continued to struggle for goals. On the other hand, Pepple is a man in form.
Of course, that would be question marks over Pepple and his ability to adjust to life at Celtic. He is scoring at the League One level. But will he be able to do the same in the Scottish top flight and whatever European competition the Hoops end up in?
