Chelsea fans know that the summer transfer window is closing soon and are looking to see what head coach Enzo Maresca might do around the lineup.

One thing seems to be clear: Maresca wants to have the best players out on the pitch that can play in Premier League action. The Blues have a lot of players who are in the conversation right now.

Who is on the move? Who is staying? Who is going? All of these questions are jostling around in Maresca's head. Of course, they also are batting around Chelsea's fans heads as well.

Over the weekend, Dan Sheldon of The Athletic offered some interesting insights into what is or is not happening with Chelsea right now.

"Enzo Maresca, the head coach, used his pre-match press conference on Thursday (Aug. 22) to announce that Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku were not going to be part of his squad for the following evening’s Premier League trip to West Ham United, even though both strikers were available for selection," Sheldon wrote.

"Despite Nkunku having just under four years remaining on his contract and Jackson’s deal not expiring until 2033, they are for sale," Sheldon wrote. "Jackson is attracting interest from within the Premier League, and Nkunku is being targeted by RB Leipzig of Germany, the club he left for Chelsea two years ago."

Sheldon said that 10 Chelsea players reported in for training time at Cobham, south of London. Among those players were Joao Felix, Ben Chilwell, Lesley Ugochukwu, Djordje Petrovic, Axel Disasi, Armando Broja, Renato Veiga and Alfie Gilchrist.

Additionally, Raheem Sterling was away from the first-team group.

For additional analysis on Chelsea's situation, Sheldon wrote, "Sterling and Chilwell have two years remaining on high-salary contracts and Chelsea’s preference would be to sell, although they could also send them out on loan, as happened with both players last season, then try again to offload them next year when their values will have reduced even further."

On Friday, Aug. 22, Chelsea defeated West Ham 5-1. It gave the Blues their first two points of the new PL season. One thing that fans of the Blues will have to keep their eyes on is what Maresca and Chelsea will do as the summer transfer window gets ready to close on them.
