Over recent years, Chelsea have developed a reputation for their stockpiling of young talent from all corners of the world.
Perhaps the most high-profile signing of them all was Brazilian winger Estevao from Palmeiras, with the 18-year-old taking to English football like a duck to water.
One of the more low-key signings was Aaron Anselmino from Argentine side Boca Juniors back in the summer of 2024. The young defender spent the next six months with his boyhood club on loan before joining up with The Blues in January this year.
After a few games as an unused sub, Anselmino made his debut for Chelsea at the Club World Cup, replacing Levi Colwill late on in extra time during the last 16 win over Benfica.
With it being clear that game time would be limited at Stamford Bridge this season, the club opted to loan the 20-year-old to German side Borussia Dortmund, with Bundesliga clubs known for developing young players.
However, things have not gone quite as planned over in West Germany either. As it stands, Anselmino has played just 564 minutes in all competitions this season, which equates to just over six full 90's. It's worth saying that a lot of that has been down to injury problems.
Nevertheless, according to journalist Patrick Berger, Chelsea have a recall option for the defender in January, as he hasn't reached the minimum amount of minutes played to avoid the possibility of a recall.
As per the report from Berger, Dortmund are expecting Chelsea not activate the clause, and the player is said to be happy there. However, the ball is in the Blues' court, so let's see.
Finally, the report says that Anselmino is rated by those at Chelsea very highly, and they see him as part of their long term plans. Dortmund have no option to buy the player.
