Chelsea's choices hint at Mykhailo Mudryk's return, while Raheem Sterling's future at the club appears uncertain.

Chelsea is currently going through a tough phase in the season, with the club's management recently relieving Enzo Maresca of his duties after a series of poor results, and plans to appoint Liam Rosenior as their manager.

The Blues were able to salvage a point against second-place Manchester City after an injury-time equalizer from midfielder Enzo Fernandez, cancelling out Tijjani Reijnders' stunning goal in the first half, as they stay only three points behind Liverpool, who currently occupy fourth place in the league.

Injuries and suspensions have also been an issue for Chelsea this season. Levi Colwill has been ruled out for the season, and Cole Palmer recently recovered from a lingering groin injury but has yet to find the form he showed last season.

Two other players currently sidelined from the squad are Raheem Sterling, who was exiled by former manager Maresca, and Mykhailo Mudryk, who is serving a suspension after testing positive for a banned substance in December 2024.

Is Mykhailo Mudryk set to return?

The club has seemingly chosen one over the other as GOAL reported that the Blues wished Mudryk on his 25th birthday recently, while ditching Sterling on his 31st birthday on December 8th, as speculations are starting to take place that the club is open to welcoming the Ukrainian star after his suspension is over, which could be as early as mid-January.

Mudryk was brought in by the Blues for a staggering €100 million fee, including add-ons, after playing out two fantastic seasons with Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk, as the winger scored six goals and provided three assists in all competitions for the Chelsea side.

Given Mudryk's abilities, if he is available to play at the end of this month, he could provide additional options for the Blues during a challenging period for the club.

Rosenior's appointment would also mean that the 25-year-old will have an opportunity to showcase his talent once again, for which the club signed him in the first place.

Also, Chelsea's attacking line-up has been the subject of regular rotation this season, which could turn out to be a blessing for Mudryk as a player to come in at this stage of the season as a contender to be in the first eleven, while Sterling's departure looks imminent in the upcoming months.
