Chelsea were able to salvage a point at St. James' Park after a brilliant second-half display against Newcastle as the game ended 2-2.

Chelsea visited St. James' Park on the back of two consecutive victories against Everton in the Premier League and Cardiff City in the Carabao Cup, respectively, and were hoping to continue their winning run as they faced Newcastle.

Although Edie Howe's men had other plans, Nick Woltemade opened the scoring for Newcastle in the 4th minute of the game after a costly giveaway from Wesley Fofana in the middle of the park.

The Blues were finding it hard to stop Anthony Gordon from putting in dangerous crosses into their penalty box, as the 24-year-old meant business from the word go.

Woltemade scored his second of the day during the 20th minute from one such cross delivered by Gordon from the left flank, which the German forward made no mistake in putting into the back of the net.

As the first half whistle blew, Chelsea were lucky to go into the break conceding only twice as Woltemade could have easily scored a first-half hat-trick for the Magpies as he missed from close range before the end of the first 45.

After a horrendous first half, the mood in the Blues' dressing room was understandably frustrating for Enzo Maresca's men. A piece of advice from Joao Pedro to Robert Sanchez seems to have been decisive. Pedro scored Chelsea's second goal from one of Sanchez's long kicks, which the Brazilian forward controlled brilliantly to level the scores in the 66th minute.

Joao Pedro's advice for Robert Sanchez

Pedro talked about his moment with Sanchez during the break in a post-match interview with BBC Sport (Via: Chelsea Chronicle), saying, "I told him [Robert Sanchez] at half-time to play this ball to me. I controlled the ball in front, and I scored a brilliant goal."

Chelsea captain Reece James scored the first goal for the Blues from a perfect free kick, giving the team their much-needed inspiration for a possible comeback.

During the last ten minutes of the game, the ball seemed to be swinging from the hosts' penalty box to the visitors' penalty box in the blink of an eye as the game was begging for a winner to be scored from either side.

Although Chelsea were unable to complete their comeback and score a third goal, the result at the end of the 90 minutes was truly fitting for the game, ending 2-2 after the final whistle, arguably the best game of the Premier League so far this season.
