Key midfielder Moises Caicedo's fifth yellow card sidelines him, creating a massive void for Chelsea against Manchester City's formidable attack.

Moises Caicedo will miss Chelsea's crucial clash against Manchester City at Etihad Stadium, scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 4, 2026, after receiving his fifth yellow card of the season.

The midfielder, who has been one of the key players for Enzo Maresca this season, was booked just four minutes into Tuesday's match against Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge.

Caicedo played the full 90 minutes of the match against the Cherries, registering a 92% pass completion rate (69/75) and two dangerous chances created. The Colombian also recorded 11 defensive contributions and seven passes into the final third.

This season Caicedo has played 28 matches for Chelsea, across the Premier League, Carabao Cup, UEFA Champions League and FIFA Club World Cup. He has a tally of four goals and two assists.

What Happened in the Chelsea vs. Bournemouth Match?

Chelsea and Bournemouth starred in an electrifying clash in London, in one of the matches of the Premier League's 19th matchday.

The spectacle was formidable: there were four goals in the first 27 minutes. Playing for the London team were Enzo Fernandez, a star of the world champion, and Alejandro Garnacho, who is seeking to reclaim a place in the national team. Playing for the visiting side was Marcos Senesi.

The match had everything. Dangerous situations, suspense, uncharacteristic errors, and a perfect example of the product the Premier League often delivers.

In the 6th minute, Bournemouth opened the scoring with a surge from Brooks, following a throw-in and a subsequent header, exposing Chelsea's habitual defensive errors.

Seven minutes later, Cole Palmer sealed the 1-1 with an effective and powerful penalty, right into the corner.

On the 23rd, a work of art. Garnacho created a collector's item of a play, passed to Enzo, and with universal class, embarrassed a defender with a feint and slotted the ball past Petrovic at the near post. It seemed Chelsea was running away with it.

Unbelievably, again following a throw-in, Bournemouth equalized. Antoine Semenyo's throw-in was impressive. The goal was scored by Justin Kluivert, the son of the great striker. There was also a prior header, but in this case from a Chelsea player, Trevoh Chalobah, who, incredibly, flicked the ball backward, directly into the box.
