Players have to really work hard in order to impress Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca with their efforts on the pitch. Forward Marc Guiu did just that and is now back with the Blues. What's the magic between Maresca and Guiu?
Well, part of it has to do with his playing efforts. The Athletic reported that Maresca loved seeing Guiu provide "intensity, hunger and passion" in every element of his game - from training sessions into matches.
Getting him back after a season loan to Sunderland, right now, was key after Liam Delap went down with a hamstring injury. Guiu can play his own style for Chelsea while also providing a much-needed boost.

🚨 Enzo Maresca appreciates the intensity, hunger and passion Marc Guiu puts into training sessions and games. The significance of this should not be ignored — Maresca dropped several players last season for not doing enough.

After coming to Chelsea from Barcelona thanks to a €6million (£5.2m) release clause in his contract, Guiu scored six goals in 16 appearances in the UEFA Conference League. He ended up being Chelsea's top scorer in UEFA action.
Things looked promising for Guiu to continue his progression in his professional career. Chelsea coaches were adding some additional work between matches so he could get better.
Last February, Guiu came on the pitch after Nicolas Jackson suffered a hamstring injury. Guiu went out and played well, but he ended up suffering a serious abductor injury that kept him out of action for a period of time.
With Jackson now gone from Chelsea to play for Bundesliga squad Bayern Munich, it's going to be up to Guiu to keep showing Maresca that he's worthy of his trust. Maresca, after seeing how much Guiu put into his own work, decided to drop a number of Chelsea players after last season. He's looking for more players like Guiu, who bring a dedicated attitude to their work.
Maresca isn't one to fancy players that are not putting in all the work needed to improve. Upon seeing Guiu's willingness to do this, he made his moves. Guiu will keep on focusing on improving his game all the time.
Chelsea takes to the pitch again on Saturday, Sept. 6, when the Blues battle Brentford at Gtech Community Stadium at 3 p.m. Eastern US time.
