Aston Villa and Chelsea meet this Wednesday, March 4, at Villa Park in Matchweek 29 of the Premier League, in a clash that could shape the battle for European places. Villa sits fourth with 51 points, six more than the Blues, who are in sixth place and do not want to lose ground in the final stretch.
Liam Rosenior’s side arrived bruised after the 2-1 loss to Arsenal in the London derby. It was Rosenior’s first defeat in the Premier League and extended their winless run to three games. Furthermore, the history is not in their favor, as Villa have won the last two league meetings, including the 2-1 at Stamford Bridge, with a double from Ollie Watkins.
GK: Robert Sanchez – Under the microscope. The Spaniard had a difficult afternoon against Arsenal, with errors in possession and uncertainty in dealing with crosses. When he keeps it simple, he shows important reflexes, but he needs to project assurance from his first pass.
RB: Reece James – Influential captain. He is one of the team’s primary creators, with pinpoint crosses and the leadership to push the unit forward.
CB: Trevoh Chalobah – Consistent competitor. He stands firm in individual duels and is one of the Blues' most reliable center backs. Physical, alert in the tackle, and increasingly established as a stable presence.
CB: Wesley Fofana – Key anticipation. His speed to readjust and cover space is decisive against opponents who attack with mobility like Villa. He needs a run of games to return to his best level after several physical setbacks.
LB: Malo Gusto – Constant forward thrust. Although he is a natural right back, he can adapt to the left side to give the team width. His energy to get up and down the flank stretches the field and offers a quick outlet.
CM: Moises Caicedo – Total balance. Tireless in recovery and aggressive in the press, he is the team's most consistent midfielder. He covers ground, breaks up play, and distributes the ball intelligently.
CM: Andrey Santos – Order. Fulfills his defensive duties and complements Caicedo's movements well. He has grown in confidence and understands when to push forward and when to hold his position.
AM: Cole Palmer – Intermittent talent. Roams freely across the frontline, though he needs greater consistency in the final impact. When he finds space between the lines, he makes the difference.
AM: Enzo Fernandez – Offensive connector. Pushed further forward compared to other stages of the season, he gets into shooting positions and tries his luck from distance. His reading of the game could prove decisive if he manages to dictate the tempo. He has eight goals so far this season.
AM: Alejandro Garnacho – Pure daring. Vertical and direct, he constantly looks for the one-on-one to break down the opposition's defensive structure. He could regain a starting spot for this match and contribute dynamism and energy in the final third.
ST: Joao Pedro – Mobile reference point. Strong with his back to goal and active in the press, he has been the team's most consistent striker. He creates space for the attacking midfielders and is a constant menace in the box. In the match against Burnley, he scored his 11th goal of the season.
