Despite the change in ownership, there has been little change in Chelsea's approach when it comes to hiring and firing managers. Since the summer of 2022, the club have had six different head coaches. The latest on that list is Liam Rosenior.
Rosenior's appointment was met with a lot of criticism from the fanbase. Until that point, he had coached teams like Strasbourg, Hull City and Derby County. With all due respect to those clubs, the pressure of life at Stamford Bridge is a whole different ball game.
To be fair to Rosenior, he has made a decent start to life as Chelsea manager. He has won six of his first eight games, with the only two losses coming at the hands of an in-form Arsenal, who are looking like champions-elect in the Premier League.
As a result, there is some positivity around Rosenior at the moment. That being said, we all know that it won't take long for the mood to change if the results stop coming.
The performances under Rosenior have not been particularly impressive, to be honest. A lot of those wins have come as a result of individual brilliance, with Chelsea looking defensively weak a lot of the time, as they have been all season. One can only wonder how sustainable the positive results will be if things do not improve.
The best-case scenario for the club would be for it to work out for Rosenior. That being said, there is a decent chance that it might not. If that comes to pass, who will be Chelsea's next manager?
For many, Cesc Fabregas would be an option worth considering as he is doing a fantastic job at Como and has them sitting at 6th in the Serie A table. Does he have what it takes to become Chelsea manager one day?
John Terry seems to believe that he does. The Chelsea icon said while talking on the Icon Series TikTok: “The Fabregas of Arsenal because of the time he spent there. But that year I played with him and we won the league under Conte, honestly, I think he’s got the best football brain I’ve been around and seen.
“The way he understands football, and there’s no coincidence why he’s doing so well at Como. I think he’s going to be a top, top manager and one day, he manages a Chelsea or an Arsenal at the top level.”
Fabregas deserves a ton of credit for the job that he has done at Como FC. He looks like someone who is bound to coach one of the top clubs in Europe sooner or later.
It is worth keeping an eye on him as a future Chelsea manager. Of course, all of us would love to see it work out for Rosenior and for him to have a long and successful run with the club. But there is one thing we have learned in the last couple of decades, it is that managers rarely last more than a few years in the Stamford Bridge hot seat.
