The permanence of a Chelsea star player will depend entirely on whether the club can advance to the next round, as his aspirations extend beyond the round of 16, regardless of which club he represents.

The moment Enzo Fernandez is experiencing at Chelsea does not align with the embarrassing defeat the Blues suffered at the Parc des Princes yesterday against Paris Saint-Germain.

After the thrashing handed to them by the Londoners in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup final, Luis Enrique's team got their revenge and secured a 5-2 result in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League round of 16. The Argentine scored one goal and provided an assist.

Enzo was visibly angry with his goalkeeper, Filip Jorgensen, who took unnecessary risks playing out from the back on more than one occasion, gifting two goals that cost Chelsea dearly. The midfielder is the best player the London club has and appears ready for a greater challenge than fighting for Champions League qualification.

Currently, Chelsea FC sits fifth in the Premier League, three points behind fourth place, the final spot securing a berth in next year's Champions League. Furthermore, their participation in the current edition hangs by a thread, requiring something close to a miracle to overturn the tie against PSG at Stamford Bridge.

This accumulation of events and context has led Enzo Fernandez to consider leaving Chelsea, despite being the vice-captain. Although Real Madrid was rumored to be a destination, French media outlet L'Equipe reported that PSG is tracking him, and the Argentine has made a decision.

From Paris, they have confirmed that if Chelsea FC fails to qualify for the next UEFA Champions League, Enzo Fernandez will decide to leave the club, and Luis Enrique's team is watching closely.

A few days ago, it was revealed that, although there are no official figures, PSG would be willing to shell out an amount close to โ‚ฌ150 million for Enzo Fernandez's transfer. The former River Plate player arrived in London in January 2023 from Benfica for โ‚ฌ120 million.

Enzo became one of the leaders inside the dressing room, even wearing the captain's armband on several occasions despite his young age. His impact goes beyond the pitch, as he has been crucial in helping other players adapt to the Premier League lifestyle.

If he leaves, it would be a total mess for Chelsea's future. The club built its whole midfield around him, and losing its main playmaker would mean starting from scratch again. Also, it would show that the "Blue" project can't keep big stars without Champions League, making it harder to attract new talent this summer.
