Despite limited game time and transfer speculation, Nicolas Jackson continues to fight for his future at Bayern Munich

Last summer, Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson departed the club to join German giants Bayern Munich on loan, with a reported loan fee of over 15 million Euros.

There was an obligation for Bayern to sign the player if he started 40 games in all competitions - it became very quickly apparent that he would not start that many games, or even close to it.

Earlier this year, it was reported that Vincent Kompany's side had decided not to exercise their option to buy Jackson, and he would thus return to Chelsea in the summer.

However, that may not be the case. According to Rahman Osman, the Senegalese striker is "not giving up" on his Bayern dream, despite a lack of game time. He states that Kompany has had talks with the player, stressing that he remains a "key part of the squad" and that nothing will be decided until the end of the campaign.

As a result, Jackson is confident he can still play a key role in the team and is ignoring all talk of interest from other clubs in the summer. Sources close to the player deny the report that Bayern have made their decision not to sign him, noting that there is still plenty of football to play.

So far this campaign, the 24-year-old has played just 674 minutes across all competitions, the equivalent of around 7.4 full games. For context, he has played more minutes for the Senegal national team in the same time frame.

In three of Bayern's last five games, Jackson has remained an unused sub, including both of the last two. In the two games he did come off the bench, he played just 26 minutes.

His productivity in his limited game time has been fine, with five goals and an assist to his name. But he was simply never going to start ahead of Harry Kane. There was talk that they could play together, but that hasn't really materialised either.

That said, Bayern went 11 points clear at the top with their win over Borussia Dortmund last weekend. So, with big Champions League games upcoming, we could see Kane rested in the Bundesliga, giving Jackson some starts to show what he can do and fight for his future.

But, well, let's see. It would be interesting to see if the forward has a clean slate under Liam Rosenior. He will also feature for Senegal at the World Cup before he joins the team. This will give him a chance to show how good he is on the biggest stage, proving himself to Chelsea or perhaps someone else.
