On Saturday afternoon, Chelsea were held to an incredibly frustrating 1-1 draw at home to relegation threated Burnley on match day 27 of the Premier League campaign.
Despite scoring early through Joao Pedro, the Blues were unable to take any of their further presentable opportunities that followed, and Wesley Fofana was sent off with a little under 20 minutes remaining. With this sort of game state, they were always leaving the door ajar.
Then, in stoppage time, the Clarets equalised through a set piece, and nearly nicked a winner afterwards. Nevertheless, another very frustrating day at the office for everyone involved.
This draw has lead to a number of unwanted records being set by Chelsea. Let's take a look at them.
To begin, no team in the Premier League have dropped as many points from winning positions this season - a whopping 19 points have been thrown away so far, and we are still just in February.
Furthermore, six red cards is also a league high. This unwanted record is not a direct consequence of the draw, but the draw is a direct consequence of the red card, if that makes sense. This one was also a record extender, with Chelsea now having had two reds more than any other team.
Meanwhile, and perhaps most damning of all the numbers, the Blues have failed to beat any of the three promoted teams for the first time ever. Just two points taken from Sunderland, Leeds United and Burnley at Stamford Bridge.
Although both Sunderland and Leeds are having good seasons for newly promoted sides, they have struggled on the road, sitting 17th and 18th in the away table respectively. The Black Cats have scored six goals away from home all season, yet still managed to score twice at the Bridge.
Just so poor and unnecessary. If it had just been an average return, such as six points, Chelsea would be in such a better position in the league, only two points off of Aston Villa in third and with a buffer to the Europa League positions. But, they now find themselves in a dogfight to secure UEFA Champions League football next season.
Plus, with a game against Arsenal next weekend, the landscape could look much worse by the end of game week 28. And that's when two games a week start to reappear. Just a huge opportunity to get points on the board completely and utterly wasted.
