Rumors swirl of a Chelsea player under investigation for match-fixing. Discover the baseless origin of these viral claims and the player's true impact.

Malo Gusto was harshly criticized by Chelsea fans after the 1-1 draw with Burnley over the weekend, especially for a misplaced pass in the area and an unstable performance while playing as a left back.

Frustration over dropped points, and the 22-year-old's performance has generated viral posts claiming the defender is under internal investigation by the Blues for match-fixing.

This claim is completely false: there is no investigation whatsoever into Gusto for match-fixing by Chelsea, the Premier League, the FA, or any other authority.

Coverage by reputable media outlets has focused solely on tactical criticism of Liam Rosenior's decision to use Malo Gusto as a left back and on fans' frustration with his performance, rather than on any suspicion of corruption.

Therefore, the match-fixing narrative has been invented by angry users and memes, with no empirical basis beyond dissatisfaction over a bad game and a highlight video shared out of context.

Malo Gusto has established himself as a mainstay in Chelsea's defense since his official arrival in July 2023, accumulating, as of February 2026, a total of 119 appearances in all competitions.

During his first full campaign in the 2023/24 season, the French full-back played 37 matches, standing out for his offensive ability by providing nine assists, of which six occurred in the Premier League, which earned him one of his team's top assist providers in that competition.

In the 2024/25 season, Gusto increased his workload with 48 total participations, contributing three additional assists while gaining international experience in tournaments such as the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup.

In the current 2025/26 season, the 22-year-old player has stepped up his goalscoring, recording his first two official goals with the "Blues" shirt in the Premier League, in addition to adding three assists in 34 matches played to date.

With an overall balance exceeding 7,400 minutes on the field, Gusto totals two goals and 15 assists with the London club, establishing himself as an undisputed starter thanks to his versatility to perform as a right back, as a wing-back, or even on the left flank when the situation requires it.

His impact is also reflected in tactical discipline, accumulating 15 yellow cards and two expulsions in his career with the English team, where he maintains a valid contract until June 2030.
