The career of Eden Hazard will always be talked about. A footballer who amazed, but whose light dimmed with his arrival at Real Madrid. The Belgian has played for three clubs, and in two of them he left an indelible mark.
Lille and Chelsea had the fortune of enjoying the best version of Eden Hazard. He began his career in France and ended up moving to London, where he reached his peak footballing form. It was from there that Real Madrid became interested in the player and ultimately signed him as a 'star.'
But nothing could be further from the truth. Injuries and his more than questionable physical condition ended the footballer's career, and he soon retired. However, the Belgian holds a great memory of his time in Madrid. In fact, Hazard recently confessed that Real Madrid is the best club he has been at.
Hazard is far from the spotlight. Since his retirement, the former footballer has kept a low profile, leading a quiet life away from the media stress of sports. Still, the Belgian continues to be seen in informal matches.
And despite being away from the profession, Hazard still enjoys football. This week, the former player participated in the "Match for Hope," a football event that featured former footballers like Marcelo, Henry, Ribery, Piqué, Tim Cahill, and Diego Costa, in addition to Hazard. During one of streamer 'Marlon's' live broadcasts, the former footballer made a surprising statement.
"No, Madrid is better. My time at Chelsea was incredible, but as a club, Madrid is the best, number one. My dream was to play for Madrid when I was young. I always told my dad that one day I wanted to play for Madrid," Hazard stated when asked if Chelsea was the best team he played for.
One of the major criticisms of Eden Hazard after his time at Real Madrid was his weight problem. The former footballer did not take care of his diet as a professional footballer should, and that took its toll. In several interviews granted, the Belgian has admitted that during his summer vacations, he would gain several kilograms.
This meant that upon returning to training, he would do so overweight, something that prevented the player from performing at his best. Furthermore, his poor physical condition led to injuries, something the player suffered from during his final professional stage.
Finally, on October 10, 2023, Eden Hazard announced his retirement from football. He did so through a letter on his social media, stating he had enjoyed his career. "You must listen to yourself and say stop at the right time. After 16 years and more than 700 matches played, I have decided to end my career as a professional footballer," he explained to his followers.
In this way, the Belgian international put an end to a career full of successes, but one that, according to many, was destined for something much greater.
