Chelsea's striker ranks underwent a lot of changes in the 2025 summer transfer window. Two additions were made. Joao Pedro was signed from Brighton & Hove Albion and Liam Delap was brought in from Ipswich Town. On the other hand, Nicolas Jackson pushed for, and got himself a loan move to Bayern Munich right before deadline day.
It would be safe to say that Chelsea's summer striker shake-up was hit-and-miss, probably leaning towards the latter. Pedro is performing brilliantly under the management of Liam Rosenior, and fans will be hoping that this run of form continues. Unfortunately, Delap is starting to look like another expensive transfer error.
Delap has scored just one Premier League goal for Chelsea this season in 16 outings. Overall, he has three goals in 28 appearances for the Blues. That is not the output you expect from a £30 million striker.
Jackson's finishing was far from great, but even then, he managed 30 goals in his two seasons with Chelsea. And his overall game was levels above what we have seen from Delap.
Jackson does not seem particularly keen on staying at Chelsea though, especially having seen how he pushed through the move to Bayern Munich in the summer. So, the Blues might need to bring in another forward at the end of the season while trying to find the Senegal international a permanent home at the same time.
According to TEAMtalk, ESPN Argentina report that Chelsea are now ‘advancing’ in negotiations for Julian Alvarez, after holding talks with the player’s representatives earlier this week.
Alvarez has been linked with a move to Chelsea for a little while now. And his chances of leaving Atletico Madrid will only increase on the back of his poor run of form.
Alvarez has not scored a goal in his last 12 La Liga outings for Atletico Madrid. Overall, he has scored in just four of the 23 league matches that he has played in this season. That is nowhere near good enough for a World Cup-winning striker like him. One cannot help but wonder if everything is fine behind the scenes at the Wanda Metropolitano.
There is little doubt about Alvarez's quality though. He has proven it at River Plate, Manchester City, Atletico Madrid, and the Argentina national team. If Chelsea have a genuine chance of signing him, they should not think twice before making the move, although the transfer valuation needs to be right.
