Premier League teams are looking at what moves they may make before the summer transfer window closes on September 1. Chelsea, which opened its Premier League season with a scoreless tie against Crystal Palace, could do something.
Yet what will they do? The Athletic's Tim Spiers offers some insight in his latest Premier League panic rankings list. On it, the Blues land at No. 6.
"A club that has signed 49 senior players in three years at a cost of around £1.5billion is never far from buying someone, panic or no panic," Spiers wrote. "If Enzo Maresco had his way, Chelsea would be steaming into the market for a centre-back following Levi Colwill’s long-term injury, but so far the club appear to be telling him to make do with the 12 senior defenders that remain available to him (No joke. That’s the real number).
"However, after mustering only three shots on target against Palace on Sunday, expect them to spend £70m on a new striker who’ll get a 12-year contract then be loaned to Strasbourg in January," Spiers wrote.
With this in mind, there probably are some players Chelsea is looking at right now. Among them are Joao Pedro of Brighton & Hove Albion, who could be an attacker for the Blues. Other players include Joao Felix of Al-Nassr, Noni Madueke of Arsenal, Joao Gittens of Borussia Dortmund, and Jordy Hato of Ajax.
If you are a Chelsea fan, then keep your eyes on what might take place before the summer transfer window closes. The Blues just might be able to pick up some help as the Premier League starts in earnest.
