Wrexham hope to get their Championship season going in the right direction when they travel to London to play Millwall at The Den tonight. Phil Parkinson’s side has just added two important players on transfer deadline day, with the hope that they add the missing quality to secure a Playoff spot this season.

Wrexham signed Burnley centre-back Joe Worrall and Sheffield United midfielder Callum O’Hare, bringing proven Championship experience to a team still looking for its first league win this season. Worrall agreed to a two-year contract with an option for another year, while O’Hare signed a three-year deal with a possible extra year.

Worrall was registered before Wednesday’s midday deadline, so he can make his debut tonight. His signing comes at a good time, as Parkinson’s team gave up what the manager called two of the softest goals he has seen during Friday’s 2-1 home loss to Birmingham City.

The 29-year-old may start in the center of Wrexham’s three-man defense with captain Dom Hyam and Callum Doyle. O’Hare is viewed as a statement signing and adds creativity and goal-scoring ability after scoring 8 goals in 45 league games for Sheffield United last season, but whether he plays tonight depends on his registration being submitted on time.

Wrexham have picked up two points from their first three Championship games, drawing with Cardiff City and Watford before losing to Birmingham. Parkinson was critical of how his side conceded against The Blues, and with Worrell coming into the side and O’Hare adding creativity, the long-serving head coach will hope the club can now kick their season into gear.

Millwall started the season well with back-to-back league wins, including a strong 3-0 home victory over Norwich City. But on Saturday, Alex Neil’s team suffered a heavy 5-1 loss to Southampton.

Millwall also have a long list of injuries going into tonight’s game. Goalkeeper Lukas Jensen and midfielder Luke Cundle are the newest worries, while Alfie Doughty, Mathis Servais, Mihailo Ivanović, Ryan Leonard, Tristan Crama, and Derek Mazou-Sako are also out. Max Crocombe is expected to stay in goal, and Josh Coburn will likely lead the attack after scoring twice already this season.

Parkinson needs to decide if Josh Windass should return to the starting lineup and if Sam Smith should take Kieffer Moore’s place up front. Issa Kaboré is also competing with Danny Imray for the right wing-back spot.

Both teams are looking to bounce back, and the physical game at The Den will not leave much room for mistakes. Wrexham’s new signings should boost morale, but getting their first win may depend on a stronger defensive effort.

Prediction: Millwall 1-1 Wrexham.
