Callum Doyle reveals his Premier League ambition with Wrexham, reflecting on his early struggles, development and connection with supporters.

Callum Doyle has set his sights on helping Wrexham reach the Premier League after revealing how a difficult opening spell at the club gave way to the most settled chapter of his career.

The defender, who joined permanently from Manchester City in 2025, has become a central figure in Phil Parkinson’s side, having played more minutes than any other Wrexham player this season, building on a first campaign that brought recognition in the 2025/26 EFL Championship Team of the Year.

Speaking to Wrexham’s official website, Doyle made clear that his ambitions extend beyond individual honours.

“Hopefully get this club promoted to the Premier League and be the best player I can be,” he said.

That objective continues across the club and its ownership group. Before arriving in North Wales, Doyle had accumulated 134 senior appearances through loan spells at Sunderland, Coventry City, Leicester City and Norwich City.

But joining Wrexham offered something different: the opportunity to establish himself at a permanent home after years of temporary moves away from Manchester City.

“For me, it felt like the right time to make that move permanently, and I'm glad it was to a club like Wrexham,” Doyle said. “It's close to home, it's a great football club, and it's a journey that I'm really happy to be a part of.”

Doyle acknowledged that his early performances fell short of his own expectations and that it took several months before he felt fully comfortable. The adjustment came after settling in North Wales and understanding the club's ambitions and long-term goals.

“Looking back now, it took me a couple of months to settle in properly, but once I did, I felt I could really show what I was capable of,” he said.

His inclusion in the Championship Team of the Year last season marked progression he's made since joining the club. Regular game time and a stable environment have all helped. Yet Doyle’s assessment of his own game remains focused on what he can add, particularly when Wrexham move forward.

He highlighted the need for more goals and assists as areas he wanted to improve, with attacking contribution becoming an important part of his development.

“The staff took on board the areas I wanted to improve and helped me develop those parts of my game,” he said.

The interview also revealed a growing attachment to the people behind Wrexham’s rise. Doyle followed the club’s progress before joining and said meeting those who had helped drive that journey brought a deeper understanding of its significance.

He described the supporters’ backing as something players cannot take for granted, linking his satisfaction at Wrexham to the responsibility of representing the club.

“Every time I pull on the red shirt, it means everything. I'm all for playing for the badge, the club and the fans,” he said.

For Parkinson, Doyle’s prominence this season provides continuity from a successful first year. For the defender, however, recognition has not altered the emphasis: keep improving, contribute more and help Wrexham take their next step.

Having found the stability he wanted when leaving Manchester City, Doyle is now looking towards a future he hopes will include Premier League football at the Racecourse.
