Wrexham AFC have now secured the permanent transfer of Gabon international Jacques Ekomié from the French Ligue 1 side Angers SCO, after we confirmed earlier this week that an agreement was in place.
The 23-year-old has agreed to a four-year deal with Stōk Cae Ras and will remain with the Red Dragons until summer 2030. Wrexham have officially stated that the fee is undisclosed; French reports say that Anthat gers will get just over €8 million, along with a future sell-on percentage.
The arrival of Ekomié marks a development that accelerated in the latter part of the transfer window, with Wrexham having previously turned down an initial offer of about £4.3 million before making a better proposal.
The club had valued the defender at about €10 million, and it was also reported that rivals from the Championship, West Ham United, and the Bundesliga, Hamburg, had shown an interest. The fact that Wrexham has been able to beat off that competition is yet another indication of the club's increasing financial strength and appeal.
After completing his transfer, Ekomié said: “I’m excited to be here. It is a very big and interesting project for me – I’m here to progress, and I’m very happy to be here.
“I want to achieve great things at Wrexham. I think it’s an ambitious project and I want to bring all my experience to help the team achieve our goals.”
Born in Libreville, Ekomié developed through Bordeaux’s academy before establishing himself at senior level. He moved to Angers on a free transfer in 2024 and made 55 appearances over two seasons, including 50 in Ligue 1.
The Gabon international featured in all but two of Angers’ league matches during the 2025/26 season, making 25 starts in 32 appearances. That experience in the French top flight should prepare him well for the intensity and physical demands of the Championship.
Parkinson welcomed the move, stating that "we are very happy to have signed Jacques; it was a transfer that we have worked hard for."

Primarily a left-back, Ekomié has the pace and athleticism to operate as a wing-back in Parkinson’s system. His arrival is timely, with Liberato Cacace struggling for fitness and George Thomason expected to miss about ten weeks due to injury.
Alongside the permanent return of Issa Kaboré, Ekomié gives Wrexham greater pace, balance and natural width on both flanks. At just 23, he offers immediate first-team quality alongside significant development and resale potential, making his arrival an important investment in Wrexham’s long-term pursuit of Premier League football.
