Wales midfielder Jordan James says his chance to join Wrexham came in 2025, before loan spells at Leicester City and Wolves.
Jordan James said a move to Wrexham was a possibility in the summer of 2025, but it was no longer under consideration when he left Rennes on loan to Wolverhampton Wanderers last month.
The Wales midfielder was heavily linked with the Red Dragons before joining Leicester City for the 2025–26 season. Asked whether Wrexham had been an option again this summer, James told BBC Sport: “That ship sailed I think. It was on last year.”
Wrexham’s interest was more than speculation, with manager Phil Parkinson confirming in August 2025 that the club had looked at James, whom he knew from the midfielder’s Birmingham City days and had followed during his time with Wales and Rennes. Parkinson stressed then that a deal was not imminent, but the interest was real; however,James subsequently joined Leicester instead.
That decision led to a productive individual season. James was named Leicester’s player of the year after scoring 11 goals in 34 appearances, although his performances could not keep the Foxes out of League One. He told the BBC he enjoyed his time at the club and valued the confidence Leicester gave him. Relegation, however, prompted him to seek another move.
James is now back in the Championship with Wolves, who have taken him on loan from Rennes and hold an option to buy him next summer. He said he had other offers, including potential Premier League opportunities, but chose a club where he felt he could win games and pursue promotion. His longer-term ambition remains to play in the Premier League.
The midfielder has scored once in six Wolves league appearances so far, all from the bench. His starts this season have come in the EFL Cup, while he is expected to start for Wales against Portugal in Thursday’s Nations League opener.
James’s remarks give no indication that talks with Wrexham resumed in the most recent window. They also leave little reason to treat him as a current Wrexham target based on last year’s reports alone.
