Ryan Reynolds has confirmed that Wrexham AFC will not pursue another major summer spending spree like last summer. Instead, the club plans to make a limited number of signings, focusing on quality in certain areas.

Following promotion to the Championship in 2025, Wrexham rebuilt their squad by signing 13 senior players as Phil Parkinson prepared for the club’s first season in the second tier in 43 years; this isn’t likely to happen again this summer. Parkinson’s side finished seventh and narrowly missed the play-offs. However, Reynolds noted that this summer’s transfer window presents different circumstances.

In an interview with Sports Illustrated, the Wrexham co-owner compared the club’s current recruitment strategy to upgrading a specific area of a house rather than undertaking a full renovation.

Reynolds said: “Last year, we arrived in the Championship and had a few months to build an entire Championship roster. Phil, Michael [Williamson] and Shaun [Harvey] did a great job, and we came up just short of the playoffs.

“This is a different brief this season. Like a home renovation show… this episode is about making the kitchen work better rather than doing a whole-house renovation.”

Wrexham will prioritize quality over quantity as they aim to progress toward the Premier League. Parkinson now has an established squad that proved its ability to compete near the top of the division last season, eliminating the need for a complete rebuild. Wrexham now need a few quality additions to take them to the next level, and that level is securing a playoff spot this season.

Wrexham’s seventh-place finish marked the highest league position in the club’s history, just four years after competing in the National League. While this achievement encourages the owners, Reynolds made clear the club will not spend for publicity alone.

The club will instead focus on signing players who can immediately strengthen the starting lineup and increase competition in key positions.

Crystal Palace defender Danny Imray is expected to be the first signing under this approach. Wrexham are reportedly finalising a deal worth around £5 million for the 23-year-old, who impressed during loan spells with Bromley, Blackpool, and West Bromwich Albion.

Parkinson recently confirmed that the club has been monitoring Imray closely, and the potential investment in Imray demonstrates that Reynolds and co-owner Rob Mac remain committed to supporting their manager financially.

While there won't be a large number of incoming this summer in North Wales, that doesn't stop the links to players looking for a new challenge. Wrexham are an attractive move for Championship players and though on the fringes at Premier League clubs.
