Wrexham AFC manager Phil Parkinson has come under increasing pressure following the club’s difficult start to the Championship season, with former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard and ex-Burnley manager Scott Parker reportedly being considered as potential replacements, should Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac make the change.

According to talkSPORT, Wrexham’s senior management have been assessing their options after the club recorded just three victories from their opening eleven league matches, leaving them 14th in the Championship.

However, Saturday’s convincing 4-1 victory over Preston North End has eased the immediate pressure on Parkinson, who has overseen three consecutive promotions since arriving at the Racecourse Ground in 2021.

The reports suggest Gerrard would be interested in the Wrexham AFC job if it becomes available. The 46-year-old has been without a club since leaving Saudi Arabian club Al-Ettifaq in January 2025.

Gerrard began his senior managerial career with Rangers in 2018, helping the Scottish club win the Premiership title in 2020/21 without losing a league match.

That success ended Celtic’s nine-year dominance of Scottish football and established Gerrard as one of Britain’s most promising young managers. However, his time at Aston Villa and Al-Ettifaq proved less successful.

Gerrard was dismissed by Villa in October 2022 following a disappointing run of Premier League results before moving to Saudi Arabia in July 2023.

Since leaving Al-Ettifaq, the former England international has worked as a television pundit, including appearances for TNT Sports.

Former Fulham, Bournemouth and Burnley manager Scott Parker is another name linked with the position. Parker has considerable Championship experience, having secured promotions to the Premier League with all three clubs.

His most recent promotion came with Burnley in the 2024/25 season, when the Clarets finished 100 points clear and kept 30 clean sheets. However, Burnley struggled after returning to the Premier League and were relegated in April 2026. Parker departed Turf Moor by mutual consent and has been without a managerial position since.

Despite the speculation, Parkinson remains in charge and received a positive response from his players on Saturday. Wrexham defeated Preston 4-1 at the Racecourse Ground, with Joe Worrall, Ben Whiteman, Sam Smith and Kieffer Moore scoring.

The result moved Wrexham up to 14th in the Championship and secured their third league victory of the campaign. Speaking after the match, Parkinson praised his players’ mentality and their response to recent criticism.

For now it looks like the club will remain with Parkinson in charge, however given the rise of the club, big names will always be linked should a managerial change happen.
