Wrexham’s injury problems are easing ahead of Saturday’s trip to Blackburn Rovers, with Ben Sheaf returning to full training and Max Cleworth and George Thomason making progress. Phil Parkinson has managed a depleted squad during a difficult start to the Championship season, but developments on the training pitch offer encouragement after last weekend’s 4–1 win over Preston North End.
Sheaf could return to the squad at Ewood Park after recovering from a groin problem, while Cleworth and Thomason have completed parts of training sessions as they work towards comebacks.
However, Parkinson still has several absentees. Josh Windass remains in recovery from an ankle injury, Nathan Broadhead is continuing his rehabilitation, and Liberato Cacace faces a longer spell out.
Ben Sheaf has returned to full training after a groin injury sustained during the international break forced him to miss three matches. The midfielder could rejoin Wrexham’s squad against Blackburn, although his involvement remains unconfirmed.
Max Cleworth is progressing towards a return after suffering a hamstring injury against Burnley in September. The defender has missed five matches but took part in part of Thursday’s training session. Saturday’s trip to Blackburn may come too soon, with Phil Parkinson yet to confirm when Cleworth will return to competitive action.
George Thomason has resumed partial training after a thigh injury sustained during Wrexham’s draw with Watford in their second league match. The midfielder has missed nine games, limiting Phil Parkinson’s options. His involvement in Thursday’s session marks progress, although Saturday’s visit to Blackburn could come too soon for his return.
Blackburn Rovers have made an inconsistent start to the Championship season, sitting 10th with 15 points from 11 matches. Four wins, three draws and four defeats have produced 17 goals scored and 16 conceded, leaving them one point ahead of Wrexham. Consecutive victories over Cardiff City and Bristol City offered encouragement after the international break, but a 3–2 defeat at West Brom halted that momentum. Rovers led through two early goals from Andri Gudjohnsen before surrendering their advantage.
Saturday’s meeting with Wrexham offers a chance to respond, improve consistency, and strengthen their position in a closely contested Championship table.
Wrexham earned a much-needed 4–1 victory over Preston, with Joe Worrall, Ben Whiteman, Sam Smith and Kieffer Moore scoring. Phil Parkinson’s side must now build on that result at Blackburn. Another win would secure consecutive league victories, move them above Rovers, and boost confidence after an inconsistent start to the season.
